The scholarship addresses three features of economic development in Australia:

  • Eroding the higher barriers posed by the presence of geographic and capital constraints that come with building companies in Australia;

About the HCA

The Harvard Club of Australia Inc. (HCA) was founded in 1961 to promote closer ties between Harvard University, and past and future students attending Harvard from Australia. The Club represents a highly active community of alumni from Harvard College, the eleven Harvard Graduate  Schools (including Business, Law, Education, Public Policy, Public Health, Medicine, Arts and Sciences), and the Harvard Extension schools.

HCA offers an annual program of speakers and social functions for Harvard alumni and their guests. HCA is extremely active in the provision of scholarships and bursaries for students to study at Harvard, including the R.G. Menzies Scholarship for Postgraduate study, The Australia Harvard Fellowships for scientific and medical exchanges, The Ferris Family Scholarship for non profit leaders, The Sir James Wolfensohn Public Sector scholarships, The Public Education Foundation Scholarships for school principals to study at Harvard Graduate School of Education, and up to 40 scholarships for school principals to attend the School Principals Centre in Australia each January. The Weiss Family Scholarship was established in 2024 to expand the HCA impact on the economic and commercial development of Australia.

HCA also runs an annual leadership conference targeted at executive leaders in the not-for-profit arena, and supports the Harvard Principals Centre in Australia.

In a typical year HCA and its donors provide $A750,000 funding for these scholarship programs. Its Education and Nonprofit leadership programs have up to 200 attendees each year.

The HCA is grateful for the support of the Weiss Family: Sam (AB ‘76), Judy (AB ‘71, MBA ‘75), Bryony and Schuyler and their families, and scholarship Co-Chairs: Bede Moore (AB, ‘06), Lauren Williams (AB, ‘01), and Joanna Marsh (AB, ‘03).
